More Than a Logo: The Story Behind Etch & Lace
Sometimes a change on the outside reflects something that has already been changing on the inside. That is what this logo change means for us.
Etch & Lace has grown since we first started in 2020. What began with a love for creating beautiful, personalized things has grown into something much more meaningful. We still love the process of designing, creating, and engraving each piece—but we've gained a clearer understanding of why we do it.
After honing in on the why, it became clear it was time to refresh our logo, and we weren't looking for something simply "new." We wanted something that better represented who we are, what we believe, and why what we create matters. And that's where our new logo comes in.
More Than Handmade
Our original logo included the words "Handmade Goods."
And while that was true, it only told part of the story.
Yes, we make things by hand. Yes, we love creating beautiful, meaningful goods. But "handmade" describes how something is made. It doesn't necessarily explain why it was made.
Our new logo says:
MADE TO MATTER.
Those words capture so much more of what we hope Etch & Lace represents. We believe the things we create can be more than things.
A hat can carry a reminder. A keychain can carry a Scripture. A gift can tell someone, I see you. I thought of you. You matter. A piece of wood, leather, or metal can hold a memory. A simple word can encourage someone on a difficult day. And sometimes, something small and tangible can point our hearts back toward something much bigger.
That's what we mean by Made to Matter.
We want to create things that have meaning beyond the moment they're purchased. Things that are made to be remembered, given with intention, worn with purpose, and used as reminders of what matters most.
So, What Does "Etch & Lace" Mean?
Our name has always felt like a beautiful picture of what we create—and over time, its meaning has become even more significant to us.
Etch represents what we do.
We use a laser to etch words, designs, Scripture, and meaningful details into the things we create. Engraving is permanent. Once something is etched, it leaves a lasting impression. And that idea goes beyond the physical process.
There are things in life that become etched into us, too. Words someone spoke at just the right moment. A verse that carried us through a difficult season. A person who changed our lives. A memory we never want to forget. A reminder of God's faithfulness. Those are the things worth remembering.
Then there is Lace.
Lace is created by individual threads being woven together. One thread may seem insignificant on its own, but when those threads are brought together, something beautiful is formed.
We see life much the same way. Our stories are made up of people, moments, relationships, seasons, struggles, celebrations, memories, and faith—all woven together. And as believers, we know that we aren't the ones holding every thread.
God is.
He sees the entire picture when we can only see a single strand. He is working through the moments we understand and the ones we don't. He is weaving together stories that often make more sense looking backward than they ever did looking forward.
So for us, Etch & Lace has come to represent the things that leave a lasting impression and the things God faithfully weaves together.
Etched into our hearts. Woven into our stories.
A Symbol With More Than One Meaning
The small symbol beneath our name is perhaps the most subtle—and one of the most meaningful—parts of our new logo. At first glance, it may simply look like a small design. But look a little closer.
It can be seen as a laser engraving head, representing the craft behind Etch & Lace. It can also be seen as a cross, representing the foundation beneath everything we do. And there is an element of a sword woven into the design—a quiet reminder of the Sword of the Spirit and the power of God's Word. There's even a subtle nod to a needle, connecting back to the idea of "Lace" and the threads that are woven together. And beneath it are the small rays of light. They can look like the beam of a laser hitting the surface we're engraving. But to us, they also represent something much greater:
the light of Christ.
Jesus said, "I am the light of the world."
And that is ultimately the light we want our business to reflect. Not our own. His.
The symbol doesn't need to announce everything at first glance. In fact, we like that you might see a laser, while someone else sees a cross. Someone might notice the sword. Someone else might see the needle. And then, when you know the story, you begin to see that all of those pieces belong together.
The Cross Is at the Center
There is something especially meaningful to us about the placement of this symbol. Our business is built on creativity, craftsmanship, and hard work—but those things aren't the foundation.
Our faith is.
We believe God is the ultimate Creator. He is the One who gives us creativity, imagination, opportunity, and the ability to use our hands to make something beautiful. And we want what we create to reflect Him.
That doesn't mean every product needs to be overtly religious. Sometimes faith looks like a Scripture engraved into a piece of leather. Sometimes it looks like an encouraging message. Sometimes it looks like a gift given to someone who needs to know they're loved. And sometimes it's simply doing our work with excellence, integrity, gratitude, and purpose.
Our prayer is that Etch & Lace would always be more than a business that makes things. We want it to be a business that matters.
Etched to Remember. Made to Matter.
Our tagline has always been: Etched to Remember. Made to Matter.
Now, our logo carries that message in a way that feels even more intentional.
Etched to Remember reminds us that some things are worth leaving a lasting impression.
Made to Matter reminds us that what we create—and how we create it—can have purpose. And underneath it all is the faith that guides us.
The belief that God is weaving together our stories. The belief that His Word is worth holding onto. The belief that His light shines even in the darkest places. The belief that the ordinary things we do with willing hands can be used for something greater than ourselves.
So, yes, our logo changed. But for us, this isn't really about a new logo. It's about a clearer message. A clearer understanding of who we are. A clearer reminder of why we started. And a renewed desire to create things that are not simply beautiful, but meaningful.
Things that remind you. Things that encourage you. Things that help you remember the people and moments that matter. Things that point you back to what matters most.
Because at the end of the day, we don't want to simply make things. We want to make things that matter.
Welcome to the next chapter of Etch & Lace. Etched to Remember. Made to Matter.
